Translucence Biosystems recently participated in the 2024 Society for Neuroscience Meeting, where they had a booth and presented six posters that showcased tools, best practices, and applications of tissue clearing for neuroscience research. Browse the posters and related resources below.

Tissue Clearing: Advantages and Applications in Neuroscience

"Exploring Tissue Clearing: Advantages and Applications in Neuroscience" demonstrated how tissue clearing techniques provide more comprehensive insights compared to traditional slice immunohistochemistry (IHC) methods in neuroscientific research.

Accelerating Alzheimer's Research

"Brain-Wide Quantification of Amyloid Plaques and Neuroinflammation in AD Model Mice" introduced how tissue clearing, light sheet imaging, and AI-powered quantification can accelerate Alzheimer's research. The poster showcased their techniques for segmenting and quantifying microglia and β-amyloid across entire brains, highlighting their potential in evaluating novel Alzheimer's Disease therapeutics.

Rich Brain-Wide Snapshots of Neuronal Activity

"Npas4 and cFos Measurement for Rich Brain-Wide Snapshots of Neuronal Activity" outlined how co-staining of Npas4 and cFos can provide a more comprehensive view of recent neuronal activity when compared to staining for cFos alone.

Npas4, a neuron-specific immediate early gene (IEG), is tightly tuned to calcium-dependent signaling pathways, while traditional markers like cFos are regulated by other signaling mechanisms. Together, these measurements provide a more comprehensive view of recent neuronal activity, enhancing our ability to assess CNS function and therapeutic efficacy.

Quantifying BBB Penetration of Antibody Therapeutics

"Brain-Wide Parenchymal Quantification of Antibody Therapeutics Crossing the BBB" introduced next-generation histology methods, including tissue clearing, light sheet imaging, and AI-powered quantification, that enable researchers to measure the blood-brain barrier (BBB) penetration of novel antibody therapeutics.

An Accessible Tissue Clearing Workflow

Undergrad Intern Nathan Hyman presented how he was able to generate 3D whole-brain anatomics data– with no prior lab experience and minimal hands-on help in "Lowering the Barrier to Tissue Clearing: Undergrad Approved".

Computational Challenges and Solutions

"3D Light Sheet Quantification at Scale – Computational Challenges and Solutions" expanded on the computational aspects of terabyte-scale 3D light sheet imaging and quantification. Attendees learned more about image acquisition, brain registration, AI-powered workflows, and data visualization of terabyte-scale datasets generated by tissue clearing and light sheet imaging. Additionally, this poster outlined the challenges that many researchers face, as well as the solutions that Translucence Biosystems has generated to alleviate these hurdles for the neuroscience community.
